National Basketball Heritage Collection and Archive

The National Basketball Heritage Collection and Archive (NBHCA) based at the University of Worcester, aims to serve as the central repository for basketball archival material in the United Kingdom, in partnership with the Hive Library and the University of Worcester Research Collections.
The NBHCA exists to engage the basketball community, and wider public, with sport's histories through education, research and outreach. The NBHCA will endeavour to encourage such research and academic enquiry by actively promoting the University of Worcester Research Collections Basketball Archive and will aim to establish a regular Basketball Conference, bringing together researchers and practitioners.
Members of the Fellowship are often uniquely placed to support the NBHC&A as many have amassed a considerable collection of archival material over many years in the sport. In a digital age, much of there material held by Fellows comes from before the period where digital communication became the norm so they often hold paper copies of historical interest dating back to the late fifties.
Such material deserves to be properly preserved and used to support those studying the history of basketball in the UK as well as students learning about the use of archival material in learning.

Members of the Fellowship, namely, John Atkinson, Jenny Collins and Mick Donovan, who worked at the University of Worcester, were instrumental in setting up the NBHC&A. The Fellowship continues to have representation on the NBHC&A Committee with Tim Brown, Jenny Collins and Andy Milbourne in regular attendance.
We have been supportive in ensuring that material from various members of the Fellowship has made its way to the NBHC&A. Recently, material has been transferred from John Atkinson, Ken and Di Charles, Gordon Coles and Jenny Collins and others.

The Fellowship has recently provided a museum standard, display cabinet, to be housed in the Sports Centre at Worcester, to display materials from the Collection. Displays will rotate to take account of current events, for example, a display of materials from past Olympics could be generated during the next scheduled games.

Watch out for the official unveiling!

We are very pleased to share the news that The National Basketball Heritage Collection and Archive's History of Basketball outreach Project has been chosen as one of the National Archive's 'Highlights' in their 'year in Archives' publication.
The publication showcases and celebrates the work of archives across the country which embody the sector's vision of 'archives Unlocked'.
The HA&C project aimed to introduce undergraduate and sixth form students to the world of archives in a familiar context - basketball! The sessions were a great success and it is intended to run more in the very near future.
Great work by Katy Small and all connected with the NBHC&A!
